On 28 February 2025, the General Directorate for Education, Research and Cultural Institutes participates in the opening event of the fourth edition of the Cultural Festival of the Rural Villages of the Laga, organized by Fedetrek Escursionismo e Ambiente – APS and the Territorial Coordination of Resident Communities at the headquarters of the Italian Geographical Society (Rome, Palazzetto Mattei, Villa Celimontana).
During the morning, after the start of the event with a speech by the President of the Italian Geographical Society, there will be an in-depth study on the cultural and social rebalancing between urban and mountain areas by the President of the Coordination of the Laga Communities and the presentation of the 2025 calendar of events.
We also inform you of the intervention of our General Directorate, by the officials Elisabetta Borgia and Marina di Berardo and the study on the interconnections between rural and urban by the Gran Sasso Science Institute. In addition to the representatives of the Administrations involved, ARCE Alleanza Reti per la Comunità Educante, which has been engaged for years in a fruitful collaboration with the MiC, will participate.
The 2025 edition
The new edition, entitled Towards a social rebalancing and a territorial reconnection between urban and coastal areas and mountain areas, emphasizes the reconnection between territories, starting from the start of active citizenship processes.
With the involvement of over 22 municipalities, including cities such as Teramo, Ascoli Piceno and L'Aquila, the great participation in the festival is confirmed for 2025, increasingly oriented towards increasing the interaction between the foothill territories and urban environments.
Starting in March, the review includes the holding, until December, of numerous events, scheduled over the weekends, in order to encourage widespread participation throughout the year and to promote a type of sustainable economy and tourism. The core of the festival is the involvement of the resident populations in the implementation of the initiatives on the calendar and across the different generations.
The literary events Ruins of memories also continue, curated by authors who will accompany visitors to the picturesque rural villages. Also scheduled are historical re-enactments on themes and traditions related to culture including, for example, those related to the master charcoal burners of the Monti della Laga, the witches of the Laga, transhumance, the production of sandstone masonry, and Benedictine culture.
