Conference “University Museums in Evolution: The Role of the National Museum System between Challenges and Opportunities” on 12-13 May 2025

The Directorate-General for Education, Research and Cultural Institutes is participating in the conference Evolving University Museums: the role of the National Museum System between challenges and opportunities, which will be held on May 12 in the Aula Magna of the Central University Building (Piazza Università) and on May 13 in the auditorium of Città della Scienza (Via Simeto, 23) of the University of Catania.

The initiative is an opportunity to reflect on the role of university museums in the national context and on the future prospects offered by the National Museum System.

On Monday 12 May starting at 3:00 pm, after the institutional greetings and introductory speeches, a round table moderated by the director of the Città della Scienza Museum will be held, with the participation of authoritative representatives of the academic, ministerial and cultural world, museum directors and referents of the CHANGES project. For the Ministry of Culture, the Director General of Museums Massimo Osanna will be present for an institutional greeting and, in the round table, the Director of the Central Institute for Restoration Luigi Oliva, the Director of the ICR School of Advanced Training and Study of Rome Francesca Capanna and for the General Directorate of Museums Michela Cascasi.

On Tuesday 13 May, from 9:00 to 13:00, a series of thematic interventions will address various aspects related to the valorization and inclusiveness of university museums. From education to cultural heritage to digitalization, from strategies for access to well-being and health, to the story of excellent Italian museum experiences, such as those of the Uffizi, Bologna, Florence and Cagliari.

Dr. Elisabetta Borgia, head of the Education, training and research office, Service I, General Directorate of Education, research and cultural institutes of the MiC, will participate with the contribution Educating on cultural heritage between access and participation.
