Cataloging between protection and valorisation. The role of the ICCD within the MiC

The Central institute for cataloging and documentation in collaboration with the Directorate General for Education, Research and Cultural Institutes and the School of Cultural Heritage and Activities Foundation, organize and maintain the multimedia course Basic “Cataloging between protection and valorisation. The role of the ICCD within the Ministry of Culture".

The multimedia course is aimed at acquiring basic knowledge on the role of the ICCD within the Ministry, on data cataloging and valorisation system and on cataloging processes, management of new filings, digitization or revision of existing filings. The course also illustrates the principles of computerized cataloging and the processes envisaged in the SIGEC web platform.

Topics

The course is divided into 6 multimedia modules:

  1. The role of the ICCD within the Ministry
  2. The system of cataloging standards: general principles
  3. The components of the cataloging system (catalog cards, Authority files, containers, modules, etc.)
  4. Structure and processes of SIGECweb cataloging
  5. Computerized cataloging in the SIGECweb (General Catalog Information System)
  6. The enhancement of catalog data on the web

Each webinar can be used on average in 30 minutes, for a total of 3 hour course, as per the attached programme. A final verification test is also foreseen.

Target audience

  • Staff of the Ministry of Culture: senior executives; officials; assistants expressly involved for specific assignment or task in activities directly related to the subjects of the course.
  • External users such as: professionals also belonging to filing bodies, university and post-graduates students specialized in the sector.

Enrolment and use

Entries must be received from 2 November to 15 November 2021 exclusively on the Course Portal reachable at the link https://portalecorsi.beniculturali.it

For all Ministry employees, registered and authorized on the Portal (up to a maximum of 2.000 units) and for external users, registered on the Portal (up to a maximum of 1.000 units), use in on-demand mode, on the e-learning platform of the School of Cultural Heritage and Activities Foundation, is scheduled to start on November 29, 2021 and run until March 31, 2022.
