There are places that preserve and bring to life the history of Italy, from the oldest to the most contemporary. They are the National Historical Institutes: the Italian Institute for Ancient History, the Italian Historical Institute for the Middle Ages, the Historical Institute for the Modern and Contemporary Age, the Institute for the History of the Italian Risorgimento, the Domus Mazziniana and the Italian Institute of Numismatics, all coordinated by the National Historical Council.

Founded in 1934 from an idea of Giovanni Gentile, they have been involved, since then and uninterruptedly, in research, analysis and publication of primary sources in annals, bulletins, books and specialized journals that collect centuries of studies by the major Italian historians.

To these important institutes, their funds and their collections, Rai Cultura and Ministry of Culture dedicate the special "Guarantors of History. The Central Council and the National Historical Institutes" written by Keti Riccardi and directed by Antonella Zechini, broadcast on Monday 23 September at 9.10 pm in premiere on Rai Storia.

Under the guidance of correspondent Carla Oppo, experts and archivists will share with the general public a heritage that, over time, the various Institutes have continued to attract, offering full guarantee to the civil community of its collection and conservation.

Suffice it to say that from these institutes have passed, just to give a few examples, personalities of the caliber of Gaetano De Sanctis, Giosuè Carducci, Francesco Crispi, Gioacchino Volpe, Federico Chabod, up to more recent times Giovanni Spadolini, Renzo de Felice, Rosario Villari.

A heritage of studies and research, always evolving, which deserves to be protected and disseminated.

The program was carried out in collaboration with the Directorate General for Education, Research and Cultural Institutes of the Ministry of Culture.

Replicas will follow on 24 September at 09.15 and on 25 September at 06.30 and the episode will also be available on demand on RAI Play.
