Minicifre della cultura - 2023 edition will be presented on wednesday 6th December (from 10.30 to 12.30 am) in Rome, at the Ministry of Culture (Sala Spadolini, via del Collegio Romano, 27).

Minicifre della cultura is a project promoted by the Ministry of Culture and created by the General Directorate of Education, research, and cultural institutes of the MiC with the Foundation School of Cultural Heritage and Activities. Minicifre della cultura collects and shares the main statistical data on culture in Italy. A tool for reading demand, supply and cultural policies, useful for the scientific community, political decision makers, professionals and sector operators, citizens.

There are many institutions in Italy that collect statistics about cultural field in national or regional dimension. However, there is no place where you can find the data from the different areas to compare them with each other, year by year. Minicifre della cultura fills this gap and create a systematic collection work divided in eight thematic groups: cultural heritage; libraries and archives; visual art and sculpture, contemporary architecture and design; publishing and printing; performing art; training and employment in culture; economic resources for culture; well-being, health and culture.

The project start again after the publication of the same project between 2009 and 2014 by the Studies Office of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Culture. The 2023 edition is enriched thanks to the contribution of the cultural institutes of the Ministry of Culture and experts, public and private institutions, researchers and newspapers. The 2023 edition is dedicated to the analysis of the period 2018-2022, a chronological horizon designed to reconstruct the transformations of the sector in a historical moment - before, during and after the Covid-19 pandemic - which has profoundly affected the offer and on cultural access. Through indicators, graphs and tables, the publication gives the reader an observation path of the progress of each area of investigation, at a national and regional level.

The project is also renewed in the data presentation: agile and innovative, which combines the traditional publication with an online platform that will be presented during the event. The website, constantly updated, enriches the volume data with regional detail, allows the user to navigate and query the graphs and maps, filtering the results by year and geographical area.

The Director General of Education, Research and Cultural Institutes, Andrea De Pasquale, highlights that "the new edition confirms the central and essential role of the Ministry of Culture in the public policies of the cultural sector and reiterates its commitment to continuing a complex work of collection, analysis and review its areas of action, in a process of constant updating of practices and methods of sharing, capable of stimulating reflections on the current situation, for its future development".

“The measurement and the use of reliable data are proving to be increasingly strategic elements for monitoring and analysis the cultural offerings and the participation, for supporting decision-making processes and the implementation of effective public policies” comments Alessandra Vittorini , Director of the Foundation School of Cultural Heritage and Activities , "we hope that Minicifre della cultura will become a real working tool to investigate, to make choices, to define implementation paths about cultural process."
