ARCHEO-CUBA PROJECT

Arqueo-Cuba is a cooperative research project regarding archaeology and sustainability to combat climate change (code AID 012314/01/7 ). This project is financed by theAgenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo AICS, in linea con gli obiettivi dell’Agenda 2030; è stato avviato nel luglio 2021, per una durata complessiva di 36 mesi.

The main goal of the Arqueo-Cuba project is to safeguard and protect the historical stratification of Cuban archaeological sites in urban contexts and the cultural and natural value connected to these sites, based on the consequences of climate change. The purpose of Arqueo-Cuba is to inspire new territorial public policies that ensure the conservation of cultural heritage in the urban environment, based on analysis and data collected. The project’s implementation is based on discussion and cooperation between international institutions and on a structure of interface between several professional figures.

The project will include institutional meetings with the Italian Embassy in Havana; technical working tables with Cuban partners; seminars to present project activities carried out by various partners and training activities on project topics; and survey of project target areas in both Havana and Matanzas.

Partners

The partner involved, Italian and Cuban, are: City of San Felice Circeo (sponsoring entity), Entity of Circeo National Park, ARCS Arci Culture SolidarityDepartment of Environmental Biology – Sapienza University, the Directorate General for Education, Research, and Cultural Institutes of the Ministry of Culture, School of Cultural Heritage and Activities Foundation, Oficina del Conservador de la Ciudad de Matanzas (OCCM), Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad de la Habana (OHcH).

Duration: 36 months, starting in July 2021
