“Double shadow” solo exhibition of the artist Ciprian Mureşan

Description of the event

Mercoledì 13 marzo 2024 ore 18.00 presso l’ Central Institute for Graphics (ICG) inaugura la mostra Doppia Ombra personale di Ciprian Mureşan, visitabile fino al 1 maggio 2024.

The exhibition includes about 24 works on paper, 9 photos and one sculpture. All the drawings, some of them with a large size, were created by the artist specifically for this exhibition, taking inspiration from works made by great masters of the past present in the collection of the Institute's Cabinet of Drawings. For this reason, some of the original drawings that ispired Ciprian Mureşan will also be exceptionally exhibited, including two very precious Heads of a Young Man by Sandro Botticelli not exhibited to the public for over twenty years, some male torsos by Pontormo and a carbonicino by Jacopo Tintoretto.

The photos were made with the help of the pinhole camera, a photographic process that exploits the principle of the darkroom: a practice that through very long exposure times leads to the creation of deliberately undefined images.

Ciprian Mureşan, a multifaceted Romanian artist, works using various media, from video to sculpture, from drawing to photography to installations, and took part in numerous exhibitions, including solo shows at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the SMAK in Ghent, the Tate Modern in London. The Chalcography project represents the artist's third solo exhibition in Rome, after those at the French Academy, Villa Medici, the Pietro Canonica Museum and the exhibition at La Fondazione.

The exhibition is curated by Pier Paolo Pancotto and Maura Picciau, Director of the Central Institute for Graphics and is organized in collaboration with the l’Romanian Academy – Romanian Cultural Institute and under the patronage of the Romanian Embassy.
