International Conventions

To promote cultural heritage internationally as well, collaborating with international entities and Institutes of Italian Culture abroad, the Directorate has signed the following conventions:

  • Convention DGER/MIBAC-Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation dated 26/11/2015 for the project “Pilot training initiative for the safeguarding and management of the cultural heritage of CARICOM countries”.
  • Convention DGER/IILA, Italian Latin American Institute dated 27/12/2016. The IILA is an international intergovernmental entity in which the governments of 20 Latin American countries and the Italian government participate. Its objective is to promote international meetings, develop relationships and mutual knowledge between Italy and Latin America, and implement development cooperation programmes. The purpose of the convention is to use the resources and skills of the Directorate and the IILA to carry out conservation and promotion of the heritage of IILA member countries. Duration: 5 years. As part of this collaboration, from 16 to 20 April 2018, the course Cultural Heritage Protection, was held in Havana (Cuba), the third and final module of the course Museology for conservation and evaluation of cultural heritage, implemented as part of the Project for Training and technical assistance for the conservation, promotion, and protection of Cuban heritage, organised by the IILA with financing from the MAECI.
  • Convention DGER/Special Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape of Rome/Institute of Italian Culture in Istanbul dated 27/03/2018. The convention is aimed at collaboration between the parties to initiate training, study, research, and application of its outcomes in the field of cultural heritage and activities, joint initiatives of cultural heritage promotion and linked to the continuation of collaborative contact with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Directorate General of Foundations (GDF) in charge of religious heritage management and conservation in Turkey. Duration: 5 years.
  • Convention DGER/Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (rep. n.3, 10 April 2019) for training, study, research, promotion, and application of outcomes in the field of cultural heritage and activities.
  • Convention for the governance of the Initiative ARQUEO-CUBA: archaeology and environmental sustainability for territorial cooperation to combat climate change AID 012314/01/7 (25 June 2021). Project to be implemented in Cuba in the region of Havana and Matanzas, with an expected duration of 36 months.
