The European Heritage Days return on 23 and 24 September 2023, an initiative promoted by Council of Europe and the European Commission. A precious opportunity to learn about and enjoy the cultural heritage through a vast program of initiatives: guided tours, special initiatives, extraordinary openings in Italian museums and places of culture.
The theme of the 2023 GEP in Italy is InVita Heritage, following the slogan Living Heritage, chosen by the Council of Europe and shared by the countries participating in the event and referring to intangible cultural heritage (cultural values, traditions, practices and ways of living) to be understood as "living" heritage.
As part of the European Heritage Days, the Ministry of Culture promotes the second Italian edition of the competition Young protagonists of European cultural heritage (Young European Heritage Makers Competition), a heritage competition aimed at young people aged 6 to 17 on the theme of GEP and the Call for European Heritage Days Stories, which allows the organizers of the Days events to create a cultural project through an economic prize of up to 10,000 euros allocated by the Council of Europe.
